Disc Shaped Craft Lands Near Westall School in Melbourne 1966

The Westall UFO incident remains one of Australias most compelling mass sightings.
On the morning of April 6 1966 at approximately 11 AM students at Westall High School in Clayton South Melbourne noticed a greyish silver disc shaped object descending into an open field adjacent to the school grounds.
Over 200 students and several teachers observed the craft which appeared about 20 feet in diameter and hovered briefly before settling on the grass.
Some witnesses reported a smaller object accompanying the main craft.
The object stayed on the ground for a short time then rose and departed at high speed.
Ground traces including flattened grass and possible burn marks were noted in the landing area.
Several students who approached the site later described feeling ill or experiencing skin irritation.
Local authorities and military personnel reportedly arrived quickly to cordon off the area and interview witnesses.
Official explanations at the time suggested a weather balloon or aircraft but these were rejected by the sheer number of consistent eyewitness accounts.
The event has been documented in Australian UFO research files and continues to be studied for its strong physical and testimonial evidence.
