Pilots Spot Eight Red Discs Flying In Formation During 1952 Flight

Pilots Spot Eight Red Discs Flying In Formation During 1952 Flight

On the evening of July 14 1952 Captain William B. Nash and First Officer William H. Fortenberry were piloting a Pan American Airways DC-4 from New York to Miami.

At approximately 8:12 PM while flying at 8000 feet near Norfolk Virginia they observed a brilliant red glow ahead. Eight disc shaped objects glowing bright red orange approached in a stepped echelon formation.

The objects abruptly reversed direction without slowing performed 90 degree turns and one briefly flipped on edge before they accelerated away at high speed.

Both pilots were experienced aviators and the sighting lasted several minutes under clear skies. The incident was reported to the Civil Aeronautics Board and investigated by Project Blue Book.

No conventional aircraft or natural phenomena matched the described performance. The Nash Fortenberry sighting is regarded as one of the most credible airline UFO encounters on record due to the detailed testimony and lack of explanation.
