Bob Lazar

Bob Lazar is an American business owner born January 26, 1959, in Coral Gables, Florida. He graduated high school in 1976 from W. Tresper Clarke High School in Westbury, New York, ranking in the bottom third of his class, and later attended Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles for electronics courses.

In May 1989 he first appeared on KLAS-TV Las Vegas describing classified work at S-4 near Area 51. He has maintained the account of reverse-engineering extraterrestrial craft through decades of interviews while operating United Nuclear Scientific Supplies.

  • Worked as technician for Kirk-Mayer subcontractor at Los Alamos National Laboratory Meson Physics Facility in 1982, listed in lab phone directory and profiled in Los Alamos Monitor for jet-powered car project.
  • First disclosed S-4 claims anonymously May 1989 on KLAS-TV, then by name November 1989 detailing nine discs and Element 115 propulsion.
  • No institutional records confirm claimed master's degrees from MIT or Caltech; investigators including Stanton Friedman found none.
  • Pleaded guilty to felony pandering in Nevada 1990; United Nuclear pleaded guilty to hazardous substances violation 2006.
  • Appeared in 2025–2026 interviews discussing ongoing personal experiments to replicate observed gravity effects.

Background

Robert Scott Lazar was born January 26, 1959, in Coral Gables, Florida. He was adopted and raised in the Westbury area of Long Island, New York. He graduated from W. Tresper Clarke High School in August 1976, placing 261st in a class of 369. His only science course was chemistry. After graduation the family moved to the Los Angeles area.

Lazar attended Pierce Junior College in Woodland Hills, California, taking mostly electronics courses from roughly 1976 to 1979. No degree from the institution is recorded. He later worked in photo processing and described early jobs in electronics testing at semiconductor firms, though specific employment records remain limited.

In 1982 Lazar worked as a technician supplied by the Kirk-Mayer contracting firm to the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory. A June 1982 Los Alamos Monitor article profiled his jet-powered Honda project and referred to him as a physicist at the facility. The lab's 1982 phone directory listed him under the contractor. Los Alamos later stated it held no direct personnel records for him as a contractor employee.

Lazar relocated to the Las Vegas area by the mid-1980s. He married Tracy Anne Murk in April 1986. He filed for bankruptcy that July while describing himself as a self-employed film processor. He has operated United Nuclear Scientific Supplies, a mail-order company selling scientific equipment and chemicals, since at least the 1990s.

In May 1989 Lazar first appeared on KLAS-TV Las Vegas as an anonymous source called Dennis. He described employment at a secret site designated S-4 south of Groom Lake, where he said he worked on reverse-engineering one of nine extraterrestrial discs. In November 1989 he appeared under his own name and provided further technical details on the Sport Model disc, its propulsion system, and related projects.

Lazar stated he was recruited through physicist Edward Teller and employed briefly from late 1988 into 1989 via EG&G under a U.S. Navy cover. No employment records from EG&G or the Navy have been located. He has attributed absences of documentation to government record alterations following his disclosures.

Lazar faced legal consequences unrelated to his claims. In 1990 he pleaded guilty to a felony pandering charge in Nevada and received probation. In 2006 his company United Nuclear Scientific Supplies pleaded guilty to a federal hazardous-substances shipping violation and was fined and placed on probation.

Lazar has continued public appearances over more than three decades. He has discussed the same core technical elements of the S-4 account in books, documentaries, and extended interviews. Element 115 was later synthesized in laboratories but as unstable isotopes decaying rapidly, unlike the stable form he described.

No independent documents, colleagues, or physical evidence have corroborated the S-4 employment or extraterrestrial craft claims. Lazar has maintained that records were erased and that his account remains consistent across polygraph discussions and repeated tellings.

Where They Are Now

As of October 2026 Bob Lazar continues to operate United Nuclear Scientific Supplies from Michigan. He has participated in extended interviews in 2025 and 2026, including sessions with Jesse Michels on American Alchemy, describing personal laboratory work to replicate gravity-altering effects observed at S-4 and stating he has achieved interesting results.

Lazar remains a frequent subject in UFO/UAP discussions and documentaries, including the 2026 film S4: The Bob Lazar Story. His central claims about S-4 employment and alien technology have not been verified by official records or independent evidence.
